Unwanted Baggage
The Fifth Christmas Minute
**Welcome to Christmas Minutes! Join me each morning from now until Christmas for a one-minute Christmas devotional. I promise to be brief! Let’s start our days focused on Jesus. It’s your free, online Christmas devotional. My gift to you. Enjoy!**
When I graduated from high school, I wanted a fun and exciting gift. Maybe a trip? A car? A shopping spree to the mall for a new wardrobe to begin college life? Instead, Mom and Dad bought me a 3-piece Samsonite luggage set. I inwardly groaned. What would I need luggage for if I wasn’t going on vacation?
When Jesus was born, Isaiah prophesied, “He was despised and rejected by men.” And He was. From the time Jesus was born, He had enemies. King Herod sent the Magi out to find Jesus, not so that he could worship Jesus, but so that he could kill Jesus. The Pharisees were opposed to His teachings. The people of Nazareth, where He grew up, rejected Him, and even one of His disciples turned Him over to be crucified. The very people He came to save called out for His crucifixion because, really, what did any of them need a Savior for?
Maybe to save them from their sins?
But to be saved, you must recognize your need for a Savior. If you’re not a sinner, you don’t need Jesus.
Here’s a hard truth.
“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
‘All’ includes you.
I didn’t want the luggage because I didn’t see a need for luggage. I used it for 20 years until the wheels finally fell off.
May He open your eyes to see your need for Him today.
